A black felted beaver bicorne hat, 1859 model by Warnock & Co, St Nicholas Hotel, n°519 B-Bay, New York, embossed on the silk lining, woven gilt tassle on each side, cockade mounted with an embroidered eagle badge and a gilt button, in original metal box. The layout of the cockade badges may not be in their original positions but the original gold braided eagle badge, motto and button are present.  This bicorne belonged to Frederic Sears Grand d'Hauteville (1838-1918) who served in the Union Army during the Maerican Civil War and who married Susan Watts Macomb, grand-daughter of General Alexander Macomb
