Георгий Артемов (1892–1965) русский художник и скульптор, который в 1913 году покинул свою родную страну для прохождения стажировки в Париже. Когда разразилась Первая мировая война, художник прервал учебу и пошёл служить. Его ранение на передовой и выздоровление совпало с началом русской революции. Это изменило его курс его жизни и принесло новые обязанности. В 1920 году он был эвакуирован в Турцию, где познакомился со своей первой женой. Вместе они вернулись во Францию в 1923 году, где он возобновил свою жизнь как художник и скульптор, обратившись к скульптуре и резьбе по дереву в стиле ар-деко.

Его работы имели коммерческий успех и были высоко оценены на выставках,а также принесли ему призы и дальнейшее признание в течение всего мирногопериода. Несмотря на это, незадолго до начала Второй мировой войны он потерялсвою первую жену, Артемов снова обрел любовь в лице второй жены, с которой унего родилась дочь. Пара отказалась от приглашения Сталина вернуться вСоветский Союз, и вместо этого художник занялся живописью. Его талант сиял, аего выставки привлекали внимание музеев и галерей.

Коллекция этих работ освещает как приезд художника в Париж вдохновил егона первоначальный стиль и технику. Во время учебы в мастерской Осипа Цадкина,он составлял компанию Пикассо, Модильяни и Сутину, влияние которых четкопрослеживается в этих творениях.

This suite of undated works shows how the artist’s arrival in Paris inspiredhis initial style and technique. Whilst studying in Ossip Zadkine’s workshop, hekept the company of Picasso, Modigliani and Soutine whose influence is clearlyvisible in these creations.

This Harlequinis actually a self-portrait painted in Revel, shortly after he moved in withhis second wife, Jeanne. She was the granddaughter of the founder of PippermintGet, now known as Get 27.He depicts himself in a red and white suit on a cubistbackground with a guitar styling the female form. A bottle of Get is recognizablein front of him, along with a fish which pays homage to his fishing days in Corsica.From his arrival in Revel onwards, he rarely paints the pupils in the eyesbelieving “the gaze disturbs the form”.

Georges Artemoff (1892-1965) was a Russian bornpainter and sculptor who originally left his home country in 1913 for aninternship in Paris. When WWI broke out, the artist interrupted his studies andstepped up to do his part. Injured on the front line, his convalescence coincidedwith the Russian revolution. This changed his course and brought a new line ofduty. In 1920 he was evacuated to Turkey where he met his first wife. Togetherthey returned to France in 1923 where he resumed his life as an artist, turningto sculpting and wood carving with a more Art Deco style.

His work saw commercial success and was highly revered at exhibitions,winning him prizes and further recognition during this peacetime interval.Despite this, he suffered the loss of his first wife shortly before theoutbreak of WWII. Artemoff found love again in the comfort of his second wife, Jeanne Astra, with whom he shared a daughter. The couple refused an invitation from Stalin toreturn to the Soviet Union and instead the artist turned to painting. Histalent shined and his exhibitions lead to acquisitions by museums andinstitutions alike.
