A double pale nephrite jade vase, each in the form of a dragon carp emerging from the water, China, the larger dragon carp accompanied by a dragon, 20 cm high. According to tradition, carp that swim up the Yellow River against the current until they reach the Longmen (literally "Dragon Gate") waterfalls are transformed into dragons. The carp are thus symbols of perseverance, and their transformation into a dragon is a metaphor for the scholars who, thanks to their persistence, succeed in passing the civil service examinations

COLLECTION BRIGITTE MAVROMICHALIS
Très cultivée, indépendante et grande joueuse de bridge, Brigitte Mavromichalis, née Wiman (1926-2015) passe sa vie à collectionner. D'une grande famille suédoise, elle rencontre son mari Constantin à Lausanne où elle séjourne pour y faire ses études. Le couple s'installera et restera en Suisse.
Grande mécène, elle se fait connaître des institutions et des musées tant par sa générosité que par sa discrétion. A Genève, où elle résidait avant de partir en Valais, elle offre d'importantes icônes au MAH. Parmi de nombreuses actions philanthropiques, elle finance fidèlement la Fondation Gianadda pendant des années et devient l'une des principales donatrices. Enfin, le Musée d'art du Valais à Sion reçoit en 2023 un legs de sa part de plus de 45 oeuvres dont des tableaux de Boudin, Lam, Marquet, Poliakoff, etc.
Plus de 200 lots inclus dans ce catalogue témoignent de l'intérêt des époux pour les belles choses: une collection de jades chinois d'exception, un service de Meissen à la Watteau de 1745, une tabatière Louis XVI en or provenant des Rothschild ou encore de rares bijoux des années 1930 signés Boivin, Cartier, Chanel, ... sont autant d'exemples d'un grand raffinement et d'un passé prestigieux.
