Medici-shaped porcelain vase, Russian Imperial Manufacture, circa 1850, period of Tsar Nicholas I. Finely painted decoration depicting Aurora, by A.L. Maître, after the fresco by Guido Reni, 1614. The body and handles are fully gilded and chased, adorned with palmettes, floral motifs, and a classical scene of archangels holding cornucopias around a lyre in a garden. Mounted on a square bronze base (minor wear to gilding on the front). h. 50 cm, hauteur du socle : 22 cm.

Medici-shaped porcelain vase, Russian Imperial Manufacture, circa 1850, period of Tsar Nicholas I.
Finely painted decoration depicting Aurora, by A.L. Maître, after the fresco by Guido Reni, 1614. The body and handles are fully gilded and chased, adorned with palmettes, floral motifs, and a classical scene of archangels holding cornucopias around a lyre in a garden. Mounted on a square bronze base (minor wear to gilding on the front). h. 50 cm, hauteur du socle : 22 cm.

Condition report

The porcelain is intact and in good condition.
The gilding has suffered from over cleaning. It has been thinned and even erased in certain areas as illustrated.
Of note:
Loss to the gilding around the top rim, around the bulbous part of the vase leaving white spotting and bare patches, scratched lines and darkened areas - this is consistant around the front of the vase below the reproduction of Aurora. The damage is less prominant on the reverse side

Aurora painting in good condition

The plates and screw that fix the base and stem of the vase together have oxydised.
The vase is marked P.P.R. 273 under the base rim.
A number is hand painted: 2646

The stand is in good condition with some surface scratches and occasional light indentations to the top edges as illustrated.
