A mid 18th century steel and bronze inkstand with candlestick and flintlock tinder lighter. Decorated with scrolling leaves and vines, featuring hand painted chinoiserie medallions on the sides. The screen of stretched skin is edged with ruched fabric; the height of the candlestick and its screen are both adjustable. The base incorporates an inkwell and a pounce pot, with the lighter mechanism mounted at the rear of the base. Height 40 cm; base 6×9 cm excluding mechanism. Provenance : Xavier et Léon Givaudan Collection, formed in the early 20th century.
