JOYCE (James). Ulysses. Paris, Shakespeare and Company, 1922. 4°, full midnight blue morocco, spine with gilt title, gilt head boards, publisher's blue wrappers preserved, slipcase. Jansenist binding by Lobstein. The first edition of one of the most influential works of its time published in Paris by Sylvia Beach. Limited numbered edition, one of 750 on hand-made paper. Well completed with the 4 errata pages bound at the end of the volume. A pioneering work for its time, which had a profound effect on English literature. It was to have been published on James Joyce's fortieth birthday on 02.02.1922, but the publication was delayed due to technical difficulties in printing the blue cover, which the author wanted to be reminiscent of the blue of the Greek flag.
