Louis Eugène Dupont (1839-1901) studiedengineering at the Zurich Institute of Technology. After his studies, he workedin Geneva as a tramway construction engineer. He built the first tramwaybetween Geneva and Chêne-Bourg. In 1866, he was elected to the Grand Council ofthe Canton of Geneva. In 1873, he travelled to Russia, where he built severaltram lines in Riga and St. Petersburg. In 1875, he became Consul General ofSwitzerland and Mission Leader in St. Petersburg. In 1900, he returned toGeneva where he died the following year.
