rectangular with rounded corners, mounted à cage, the chased and matted rose-gold mounts applied with richly worked three-colour gold garlands of foliage, flowerheads and rosebuds, the cover, four sides and base inset under glass with painted ivory miniatures depicting gallant and village scenes in the Dutch taste, after Henri-Joseph van Blarenberghe (1741–1826), including a peasant dance, rustic interiors, pastoral scenes and episodes of everyday life, the miniature on the cover signed Van Blarenberghe; with partially legible marks to the rim, beneath the cover and on the base, later struck with a French eagle’s head mark
