Description

Oval gold and enamel snuff box, probably Hanau, circa 1780–1790.
The lid is centred with an oval enamel miniature depicting a young lady adorned with blue ribbons in her hair, set against an opaque turquoise enamel ground, within a surround of delicate borders embellished with blue and gold foil decoration (paillons); the sides, in white enamel with gold neoclassical urn motifs, divide panels of opaque turquoise enamel, 2,7x8,5x6,2 cm, gross 125g

Condition report

Top: There are two small areas of damage to the miniature near the edge, to the left and right of the headdress. A few small chips to the white enamel are present around the rim of the lid.

The turquoise enamel is in very good condition. There is a small loss to the white enamel band at the back. Minor wear to the gilt garland around the perimeter of the underside.

A hallmark is present underneath the lid as well as inside the base.
